northsidemiddle added a text contribution The fall of Jerusalem
Here Jesus describes what it will be like when Rome destroys the temple and crushes Jerusalem. Then Jesus warns people not to believe everyone who will use major events to proclaim that they are the messiah. For example every time something bad happens some people claim it is the end of the world. Also some will use it to their advantage and try to set themselves up as a prophet, or the voice of God, or something else. Don't believe these people. Read more »

northsidemiddle added a text contribution Give what you have
Here Jesus shows us that God looks at giving based on what you have not how much you gave. God is more happy with someone giving 5 bucks when they only have 5 bucks than someone giving 10 million when they have 100 million. Read more »

northsidemiddle added a text contribution What it all comes down to
Here Jesus sums it all up. Actually this is a quote from the old testament. When you love God with everything you are and love others as yourself you are going to love a Godly life. This is the main point. Read more »

northsidemiddle added a text contribution Another trick question
This time another group of religious leaders, the sadducees (there were a lot of different religious leader groups back then weren't there?) was trying to trick Jesus. Here Jesus gives us a glimpse of heaven. Apparently in heaven we will not be married but will instead be like angels who don't marry. Read more »

northsidemiddle added a text contribution A trick question
If Jesus would have said it was ok to pay taxes, the jewish people would have been upset because the Romans were taking huge taxes from everyone and the jewish people were not happy about it. If Jesus would have said it was ok not to pay taxes, he could have been arrested for going against Roman law. So Jesus shows that God is above human rules and that God is supreme over everything. So sorry you can't trick Jesus. Read more »

Here Jesus tells a story. In the story, the owner is God. The servants are all the prophets God sent to warn the people in the past. The renters are the people who reject God. The son is Jesus. Then Jesus quotes the old testament to show that he would be rejected by the chief priests. THe teachers of the law and the chief priests were of course furious that Jesus was calling them out like this. Read more »

northsidemiddle added a text contribution The enemies of Jesus
Obviously, the leaders at the temple were not happy about JEsus trashing it the day before. So they ask who gave you the authority to do this? JEsus knew they only cared about their own power and didn't really care about God. So JEsus turns the question around on them. He knew they didn't believe what John the baptist had said about Jesus. So he asked them about who John followed. The teachers of the law didn't want to upset the crowd because if the crowd turned against them,… Read more »

northsidemiddle added a text contribution What this means
Here JEsus is not saying if you wish for something hard enough, you'll get it. Instead Jesus is saying that when what you want lines up with what God wants, it will happen. Faith is about believing that God is who he says he is and that he will do what he says he will do. Nothing more, nothing less. Read more »

northsidemiddle added a text contribution Clearing out the temple
Back in Jesus' day people would make sacrifices at the temple. Because some people had to travel from far away, it was easier to buy a sacrifice at the temple then to try and bring one with you. Well some people began to take advantage of this and started selling sacrifices at crazy prices. Because the people had no other choice they had to buy them. Jesus was mad because they were taking advantage of people and saying God wanted them to do it. Read more »

northsidemiddle added a text contribution What do you love most?
Here we see Jesus having a conversation with someone who by all accounts is probably a pretty good person. The only thing Jesus could see that was holding him back was that he was in love with all of his stuff. So here is what Jesus tells him, "in order to become truly good, give your stuff away and follow me." Jesus knew that the mans love of his stuff was having a negative effect on him. The man walked away because he would rather have his stuff than Jesus. And here is the lesson. Y… Read more »
