God rested from his work as an example for mankind to follow. Exodus 20:8-11 says "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. pchsv added a text contribution Work before the FallBefore sin entered the world, man had to work. God put Adam to work in the garden to tend to it. This seems similar to the New Testament command that if a man doesn't work, he doesn't eat. Either way, in a sinless unfallen world, work still exists. This implies that when the New Heaven and New Earth come, man will work. Read more »

God commands being fruitful and procreating to all animals. Herbs and fruit of trees is given as food to the humans. v27 indicates Adam and Eve were created on the same day. Read more »

pchsv added a text contribution Day 1 Genesis 1:1-5On the first day of creation, God created the earth and the heavens. At first, there was no light and no ground on the surface. God created light (not the sun) and named it Day, and the darkness he called Night. v5 describes "evening and the morning were the first day" - the Jews took this to mean that the day begins at night, so they would say Evening (sun down), Morning, Afternoon describes a day in contrast to how we view a day as morning (midnight), afternoon, evening.
