randomrambler added a text contribution Day 8 Devotion by Mike YaconelliOver the course of my life, I have never felt utterly discouraged. Generally I feel encouraged, uplifted and very positive. But there was a time when I was attending university where I was feeling discouraged. Classes weren't going well. Personal relationships of mine weren't that stellar. All around I was not in a great place. I was discouraged, and when asked with the simple question of why? I answered honestly, because I was adrift, living life on my own. I was discouraged because I… Read more »

randomrambler added a text contribution Day 7 Devotin by Mike YaconelliBeing daring takes some serious guts, daring means going against the flow, pushing the envelope, going outside your comfort zone, or any other number of clichés. Being daring for Christ often entitles being alone, which for a lot of people is very hard to do. Daring often means being a trail blazer and going against the expectations of the world. Jesus was daring, and in this passage we read how he was going against the flow of the religious people of the day. Sometimes daring means not acceptin… Read more »

randomrambler added a text contribution Day 6 Devotion by Mike YaconelliConfusion is the topic of choice today. Many of us don't like confusion; in fact we like to avoid it at all costs. We most certainly don't like not understanding, and will often find ourselves pressing the issue until we are able to understand, or at least not be confused. And yet the God we serve is mysterious, there is so much about Him that we don't understand. Yesterday was all about the fact that we continually pursue our relationship with God because He is infinite. Yet toda… Read more »

randomrambler added a text contribution Day 5 Devotion by Mike YaconelliClueless, a movie from the early 90's that revolutionized the way we talked. "Valley" talk took over common day language and our language capability somehow seemed to diminish. However in today's devotion we understand the clueless is always a constant state of living for Christians. The scripture reading demonstrates how the disciples, who were the closest people to Jesus, still, did not understand things about Jesus that others did. This woman came in and understood the sac… Read more »

randomrambler added a text contribution Day 4 Devotion by Mike YaconelliCalling is such a weird idea, to think that God would individually call out people to do specific tasks. It once again demonstrates just how personal our God is, and yet, it also demonstrates his overall greatness, to be able to know a person so intimately and design them in such a way that they fit perfectly into this specific area of time and space to do a specific "job" blows my mind! But even in these verses I wonder if calling is an adequate term to use. To me it feels like we are… Read more »

randomrambler added a text contribution Day 3 Devotion by Mike YaconelliDay 3 Boldness Why so timid? It is something I have often asked myself, especially with regards to sharing the love of Christ. Why do I hold on so tightly to the comfort of my surroundings. Honestly I'm sure a lot of it has to do with Fear, fear that I don't know what is going to happen, fear of rejection, fear of criticism. Or perhaps I am timid because my limited understanding of peace says that we need to be humble and peaceable and timid, not bold and upfront. Mike Yaconelli re… Read more »

randomrambler added a text contribution AuthorityDay 2 Devotion by Mike Yaconelli In today's reading we are encouraged to know that authority is not just granted to people who are older than us. Mike reminds us that by living a life in Christ we have authority no matter what our age. Not necessarily an authority of words but an authority in the way we live if we live for Christ. Authority and respect can be similarly compared an in this light we may realize that when people are offering us their respect, they are also acknowledging ou… Read more »

randomrambler added a text contribution Being DifferentDay 1 Devotion by Mike Yaconelli Today's scripture reading turns us to the fact that we are different, that there is something that has been changed in those who believe in Christ Jesus and who follow him daily. There has obviously been a shift in today's "evangelical" church to be more in tune with the world so that we can engage culture, be relevant and hopefully win people to Christ by showing we are normal just like them. But Peter clearly lays it out for us by sayi… Read more »

randomrambler added a text contribution kill himWell it seems odd that God would want to come and kill Moses, especially since He had just empowered him and instructed Moses to go. But perhaps it had something to do with the idea, "Do what I say, not what I do." Zipporah saves her husband by fulfilling one of Hebrew traditions of circumcision, perhaps Moses was not quite ready to be going afterall, but in all haste Moses got up and went without preparing himself, nor his family to be the representatives of God to an entire nation an… Read more »
