robbiemelton added a link contribution Contend for the Faith: Studying the Letter of Jude :: Jude 3-4 (A)As we begin reading through verses three and four, we can almost feel the sense of urgency with which Jude is writing. First of all, Jude says that he was intending on writing the church concerning the nature of salvation but, due to the circumstances explained in verse 4, he had to change directions in his writing. Instead of writing what may have been a lengthy treatise on Soteriology, Jude is compelled to quickly and urgently write a response to the subtle false teaching that is attacking the… Read more »

robbiemelton added a link contribution Contend for the Faith: Studying the Letter of Jude :: Jude 1-2The book of Jude is one of the most neglected books in the New Testament. Many (if not most) pastors have never preached through it, and many (if not most) Christians have never even read it from start to finish. Despite the fact that the Jude is commonly neglected (whether intentional or not), it remains one of the most practically applicable books in all of the Bible – especially in light of the status of the contemporary church (“church” meaning those who profess to believe the gospel of Jesu… Read more »

robbiemelton added a link contribution Make Disciples of All Nations :: Finishing the TaskThis is a very familiar passage of scripture – perhaps the most familiar after John 3:16. It is most commonly referred to as “The Great Commission.” Regardless of how familiar it is or what it is called, the Great Commission is there and it appears to be a command. But what exactly are we being commanded to do here? There appears to be several things involved, but the primary command is to “make disciples of all nations”. Everything else describes how we are to accomplish this task (i.e. by goin… Read more »

robbiemelton added a link contribution VoM BLOG :: Devotional Meditations: Philemon 18Philemon is a strange book isn’t it? All it is is a personal letter from Paul to his friend Philemon. In it Paul is requesting that Philemon will accept his former slave Onesimus. There doesn’t appear to be much application for us modern day Americans. None the less, I began reading this book a few days ago because it was on my reading plan. I found verse 18 to be an amazing challenge! Read more »

robbiemelton added a link contribution Be filled with the Spirit! BUT HOW?!Often times throughout the scriptures there are refferences to being filled with the Spirit. Now, there are a few different types of fillings of the Spirt. Being indwelt by the Spirit (which happens at the moment of conversion), Being controlled by the Spirit, and special fillings by the Spirit (just to name a few). The Spirit filling that has been consuming my thoughts throughout the day is the second one, being controlled by the Spirit. Read more »

robbiemelton added a link contribution What Happend to the Sabbath? The question can be asked, “Why do we as the church not keep the Sabbath commandment when we keep the other nine?” Some contend that the reason is simply because Jesus affirmed all the other commandments but He never affirmed the Sabbath. I, however, believe there is a much better explanation. In order to answer this question I will begin by explaining what the Sabbath was in the Old Testament and Jewish culture. Read more »

robbiemelton added a link contribution What Must I Do To Be Saved? What is the gospel? The word itself simply means “good news”. But what exactly IS the good news? Is the gospel made up of simply good news? How should one go about presenting the gospel? What exactly is involved in someone hearing the gospel and receiving salvation? My goal is to eventually address all of these questions and more dealing with the gospel. Today I am going to deal with a small part of the last question. Is submission to Jesus Christ a necessary element in saving faith? Read more »

robbiemelton added a link contribution Apologetics Without ApologyApologetics is a pretty big word. It sounds like the word “apology”. Right now I want you to erase any idea of relating to each other those two words (apologetics and apology). It has nothing to do with being sorry. The word “apologetic” simply means ” a defense”. Christian Apologetics is simply giving the reason for what we believe and why we believe it. This has nothing to do with an “apology” because we are not “sorry” for what we believe. In this post I am going to explain what Christian Apo… Read more »
