I have always been fascinated by the School Districts 'zero hands on' policy. They have no tolerance whatsoever for any pupils who put their hands on another, even if one of the pupils is defending himself. It's true, it happened to my son at one time. In Psalm 101 we have a 'zero tolerance policy' against evil. You can simply not allow it to take root in your life and bloom, the results will be devastating. Psalm 101 puts it so eloquently. 3 things we will look… Read more »

Today more than ever we have to recognize that Jesus is the sole authority (maybe that should be soul authority) on maintaining sexual purity. Especially in today's world where morals are extremely subjective. Why would Paul have to deal with this in the Bible ?? It was common in those days for men to take multiple wives, of course temple worship was common among the gentiles. Homosexuality was common as was using slaves for sexual gratification. Of course the Jewish people had lived unde… Read more »

Paul hit the nail on the head when he said, "We dared to tell you about the Gospel even in the face of strong opposition". This could not be more pertinent today. Society has arrived at a place where morality is subjective and your morals may not be the same as mine. Even in the church we have developed a therapeutic religion, where clear moral standards are set aside in favor of ethical ambiguity and broad tolerance of each other's choices. Where tolerance rules, love becomes… Read more »

In a door-to-door survey conducted by Willow Creek Community Church of South Barrington, IL (which is probably the largest church in the U.S.), the question was asked: "If you don’t go to church, why?" The five biggest reasons: 1- Boring 2- Irrelevant 3- Asking for money all the time 4- I’m too busy already 5- I feel awkward at church. It's true many times has become boring and evangelical Christians today are considered boring and out of touch with the world around them (not re… Read more »

Who Are You? When people think of God, church, religion or things of that nature they usually think of a code of ethics, rules or rituals. When asked what is important to God they will quote several "thou shalts or thou shalt nots". They may mention baptism, membership or giving. Many of the things they might mention are well and good in their place, but they are not the most important things to God. Who you are is the most important thing. most important to God are a broken spirit… Read more »

Jesus pays the bill, even though He doesn't have too. The temple taxes instituted in Ex 30 for the building of the tabernacle are basically voluntary, some sects pay them and others don't. They are not enforceable by law and Rabbi's and Prominent teachers are most definitely exempt. Of course the Roman taxes were an entirely different story and everyone who's name was on the Census had to pay. So when the guys come to collect the temple tax and they ask Peter if his maste… Read more »

Sometimes I Act Like Peter, but usually not in a good way. Not in the way Peter acted when he had a revelation of who Jesus was, when He said you are the Christ and Jesus goes on to say how on this revelation the church will be built. No sometimes I act like Peter in vs 22 and 23. Peter basically takes Jesus aside and rebukes Him within hearing of the other disciples, telling Jesus that if he (Peter) could help it this would never happen. Of course Jesus had been talking about His sufferings… Read more »

They say, "from the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks" which pretty much means those thoughts, feelings, and emotions deep down in side of you have a way of coming out even if you try to suppress them. Have you ever noticed that if you are in the presence of someone you truly despise you find yourself saying things you wouldn't normally say, or acting in a way you wouldn't normally act. Sure, you might be able to act normally for a short period of time but sooner or l… Read more »

The text says that David became greater an d greater and then goes on to list the name of the great men that served with him. There is a direct connection to David's greatness and the men that served. Mathew Henry mentions that "much of the strength and honor of great men is borrowed from their servants and depends upon them" -- see MH on this chapter 1 Chron 11 Think about it this way, David is great largely because of the great men around him. Take the men away and his simpl… Read more »

I woke up this morning and was reading Numbers 31 which is one of the Life Journal Readings for the day. It starts out fine, God is telling Moses that He is going to send the people to war and to prepare for the battle. In a sense God and His people have the same friends and the same foes. Moses spoke about avenging the Lord because He had been dishonored. It's the same today, we still fight over things that dishonor God. The things of this world, powers, principalities, spiritual dark… Read more »

The Cost and Importance of Daily Worship. Scripture - Numbers 28:1-3 Observation: From the beginning the secret of Israels blessings was when they had a good relationship with God. Reading through Numbers 28 makes me wonder how long something like this took. I'm no butcher so I have no idea how long it takes to offer 2 one year old lambs a day. I can only imagine that this takes some time. There must be more to this than mere ritual. The offerings which were brought regularly and admini… Read more »
