I have read that the book of Esther, chronologically speaking, fits into the middle of the book of Ezra. Read more »

    sherrylouise200 added a text contribution Ezra-Nehemiah
The books of Ezra and Nehemiah are said to have originally been one text, which was likely written as a supplement to 1 and 2 Chronicles by the same author(s). These two books discuss the same time period and events but from the differing perspectives of the two named figures. Source: The Complete Bible Handbook by John Bowker Read more »

RAINBOW. 13. I do set my bow in the cloud--set, that is, constitute or appoint. This common and familiar phenomenon being made the pledge of peace, its appearance when showers began to fall would be welcomed with the liveliest feelings of joy. By Robert Jamieson The token of the covenant was the rainbow in the sky. 1. Prior to the flood it had never rained, so that man had never before seen a rainbow. 2. Seeing the rainbow in the sky what do you think of? a. The pot of gold at… Read more »

sherrylouise200 added a text contribution Curse of Woman
Woman's curse is three-fold. The birthing of her children will bring her great pain. I wonder why God chose this "discipline". Is it because it is the one thing that man cannot do? The second part of the curse is more complicated and somewhat unclear. Many scholars seem to agree that it has to do with control between men and women. I have only found one translation that doesn't say "your desire will be for your husband". Read more »

sherrylouise200 added a text contribution Curse of Satan
I have read somewhere that this could be considered a curse upon Satan himself but in my opinion it would be strongly linked to the serpent in verse 14. If Satan isn't the serpent, it is one of his minions. Because of this involvement in the sin of Adam & Eve, there will be eternal rivalry/war between Christ and Satan. Read more »

sherrylouise200 added a text contribution Curse of the serpent
There is some disagreement as to whether God cursed the humans at the time of the first sin. It is obvious by the Bible's wording that at the very least the serpent was cursed. Read more »

sherrylouise200 added a text contribution Resist the devil
God has promised to provide an avenue of escape (1 Cor 10:13) but we have to do some work ourselves also. James 4:7 tells us to "Resist the devil and he will flee from you." The Lord cannot cover us if we are living in sin! 2 Tim 2:22 says that we should "Flee the evil desires of youth; and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace." When we live in obedience to Christ, we can fully depend on Him rescuing us from temptation by providing a way out. We must use His strength… Read more »

sherrylouise200 added a text contribution 40 yrs vs 11 days
How sad that because of their continued disobedience the 11 day journey to the promised land lasted for 40 years...one year for each day that the spies went into the land...long enough for the entire generation to die off so that they were not able to see their inheritance. We MUST be obedient if we are to be rewarded with the good things God wants to give us! Read more »

sherrylouise200 added a text contribution Finishing
We will never be perfect. And we don't need to be. All we need to do is to finish the "race" and to stand in righteousness before the Lord when all is said and done. We need to stand firm in the things of God and put all things of this world in second place, counting them as loss. Read more »

sherrylouise200 added a text contribution Preparation
We need to prepare ourselves before embarking on any journey. When you are about to begin a new life in the Lord, you need to be prepared. Paul went to Arabia for three years (reading on into verse 18) to study for his new life, leaving behind his old ways of persecution and embracing the teachings of Jesus. My point? It's a process. One with many challenges and involving a change of heart. Read more »
