surgeon added a text contribution God, Sovereign over pestilence
God decreed that there would be a famine (people and animals die in famine) and through that decree He exalted His servant Joseph and He caused Joseph's family (who experienced famine in Canaan) to come to Egypt (Gen 41 & Ps 105). How unsearchable are His judgments His ways are beyond finding out. Rom 11:36 Read more »

surgeon added a text contribution Ugly but beautiful feet
Our responsibility is so heavy within these verses. If faith comes by hearing how can we expect people to believe without our proclamation. Faith and hearing goes hand in hand. People need to hear the news that is so good to them that they behold your ugly feet and behold those good news bringing feet as beautiful. Read more »

surgeon added a text contribution Beauties that require a miracle
The Chief priest and the scribes wanted to destroy Jesus for they feared him because the crowds were shocked at his teaching. In Christ dwell ALL treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Christ is the wisdom and power of God. His knowledge is infinitely vast. Who wouldn't be astonished? They were blind. Surely they were because blind people can't see glory. The excellences and perfections of Christ are beauties that require a miracle to behold. Read more »

If it is hard for the rich (who were supposedly blessed by God) to enter the kingdom then hope is futile for anyone else. This is what the disciples were thinking. Jesus response is " With man it is impossible, but not with God." Being saved is a result of a miracle performed by God. With God all possibilities are potential realities. With man salvation is impossible. Read more »

I used to be just like this guy. I also ran up to Jesus in the same posture but I didn't know what I was asking for. I didn't know what Jesus was asking me for... a life of abandonment. I could write for days on the chapter. The Sovereignty of God within the whole of the Bible used to cause me to weep my eyes out (literally) but now I rejoice in it. God raised up Pharoah for the supreme reason of displaying his power and glorifying His name (that my name may be proclaimed in ALL the earth). The display of His power and the glorying of His name are not two separate goals but it is a single goal perform through a single means (the raising up of Pharoah). He shows mercy on whomev… Read more »

surgeon added a text contribution A gigantic God in a finite heart
Joseph has acknowledged that all that he is and all that he has are the results of the Sovereign hand of God. Joseph was not primarily concerned about dishonor ing Potiphar. His primary concern was the devaluing of the Glory of the Holy God. When God's glory is not valued supremely in the eyes of men sin becomes a prize worth attaining. "How can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?" God must have been gigantic in the finite heart of Joseph. Read more »

Nothing will separate us from God's love. You may experience, tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, or slaughter but no experience of theses things makes the love of God toward us invalid. Although he ordains these things he infuses us with a conquering spirit and we shall appear on the other side of eternity fully reflecting and enjoying the beauty of him who has given us all things graciously... not a hair on your head will perish even if we're slaughtered G… Read more »

No condemnation!!! None whatsoever... for those who are in Christ Jesus. The condemnation that we deserved was not swept away under the rug of the universe but it was truly, actually and factually experienced for our sake by and in the person of JESUS (our substitute). Thank God for the Ransom! So then (Paul is always presenting warnings) brothers we are debtors but not to the flesh. We are in debt to the Spirit. We are not in debt to the flesh. If we pay our debt to the sinful nature then we… Read more »

The law propelled sin. It quickened, stirred and excited sin. The law show us how sinful sin is. The law bring to light the insufficiency inherent within man to live a Christ exalting life..."I am of flesh, sold under sin." Thank God for the Redeemer who bought with a price and bought us back. God was the purchaser and God was the price (His blood) and through this... God was propitiated (His wrath was appeased) and we were propelled into a relationship with Him that abounds with mer… Read more »

surgeon added a text contribution People suffocate of crosses
Jesus' life was marked by suffering and resulted in glory. It was not beyond God's intention that we too would follow the same pattern. Jesus said take up your cross. People are stretched out on crosses, bruised on crosses, mocked on crosses, shamed on crosses, they suffocate on crosses, pain is excruciating on crosses and ultimately they're killed on crosses. Those jews knew this! Jesus is risky! Read more »

Jesus wants to know "Do you see anything?" We are just like this blind man who was touched by Jesus' healing hand yet without a clear vision of men. We also see men like trees. surgeon added a text contribution Beyond Repentance
Deut 32:39 says that God kills and gives life. Judah's son was wicked in the sight of the Lord. That phrase says a whole lot. Wicked in the sight of the Lord. Some sins God choses to overlook but on some he demonstrates his justice and in this case it was beyond repentance. Read more »

surgeon added a text contribution When God wants you in Slavery!
Joseph was sold into slaveery by his brothers to the ishmaelites before his brother Reuben was able to rescue him. Reuben's heart was broken because he was not able to rescue his brother but it was the will of God for Joseph to be sold into slavery and sent to Egypt for it is written in Ps 105:17 that it was God who sent Joseph to Egypt through these means. God caused the famine that sent Joseph's family down to Egypt and thus fulfilled the dream that God gave to Joseph of the sheaves… Read more »

surgeon added a text contribution Lesson 1 on how to arouse God
Herod violently persecuted the church in verse one. In verse two he killed James and verse three he arrested Peter. So what did God do about it? He, in his wisdom, allowed what he allowed and recused Peter. Look in verse 21-23! Check this out! Herod was puffed up through the flattery of the people and an angel killed him because he refused to give Glory to God. The church was persecuted, God was there. James got killed, God was there. Churches helping churches! Who's ever heard of that? Especially in America! Especially in Memphis! Maybe God should take His Bible back because its too difficult for us, but...
