How often I forget that those without Christ are not at peace with God. People may feel like they are at peace because their life is going pretty good without Christ, but feelings do not mean that they are at peace relationally with Him. Read more »

tylerjagen added a text contribution Psalm 51 Cleansing of Sin
First I think it would stink to be David and have your dirty laundry out there for the last 3,000 years. I think this really shows what it looks like to properly come before God in sin. He understands the wickedness of his sin. He feels it. He asks for forgiveness and for God to make him clean, to create a clean heart and to make his spirit loyal to God once again. He doesn't go through the motions and he doesn't want just forgiveness. He wants God to restore him before Him. He… Read more »

Joseph knew without a doubt that God was going to bring the Israelites back to Canaan. Once again he shows his faith in God that He will fulfill his promises. He did. Exodus 13:19 Moses takes the bones of Joseph with him as the people leave Egypt. And in the time of Joshua (Joshua 24:32) his bones were buried in the land of Shechem which I believe is in the land of Ephraim, his son. Read more »

So, after Reuben, Simeon and Levi lose out on the firstborn birthright, it comes to the #4 son, Judah. For the most part, Judah stays out of the type of trouble that the other boys got into. Not only that but it was him who was willing to become a slave in the place of Benjamin. Judah will have the largest piece of land with the largest population. From his line will be the scepter, or royal lineage. Read more »

Reuben lost the firstborn right, which would have then come to Simeon and then Levi. They lost their right after the slaughter of the people of Shechem because of Shechem raping Dinah their sister. It's prophetic here because Levi won't get any portion of the land as the Levites will priests all throughout the land. Their position will be redeemed later as they take sides with the Lord. Simeon will only get a small portion within the territory of Judah. Read more »

I think this is an interesting verse, because from Scripture we only really know that God said to Jacob that you'll inherit the land of Canaan and have many descendants. What this verse suggests is that God must have also told Jacob that his children will become tribes and have their own particular territory. It does make you wonder how much God revealed to these guys that we don't know about. Read more »

tylerjagen added a text contribution Romans 3:22 It's So Dang Easy!
I think the greatest judgment on man is that we reject something so easy. All we need to do is put our faith in Jesus' provision. THAT'S IT! Man has no excuse because it's that easy. No chants, no rituals, no busting the mind, no works. Why would anyone reject someone doing some work for us that we can't do for free, especially if it has eternal implications? Thank you God for how incredibly simple you make it for us! I don't think we really realize the magnitude o… Read more »

We see a quick glimpse that the Egyptians looked down on shepherds. In the years to come these shepherds will grow in great number. There's nothing worse than when someone you look down on starts to overpower you. Of course the Egyptians aren't going to let these shepherds get the best of their refined and sophisticated society Read more »

How important God views the family. God was the God of Isaac and now of his son Jacob. We've really forget to know what it is like that God is the God of our family. How often do Christians worship together as a family, pray beyond a meal together, read Scripture together? The family was God's most power tool that he used for discipleship, evangelism, worship, ministry, and fellowship. Family has now been relegated to plan B in most of our churches. How much time does a church… Read more »

After setting up the gentiles as sinners, he now brings to light that the Jews are sinners also. You are not righteous by being born a Jew or hearing the law. You are righteous by complete obedience to the law. And in the next chapter we'll see that none of us has done that. Read more »

Paul was not hung up as being a leader. It was never about him. His passion for God and for people are what propelled him. He prays and prays for the Romans. He does the same for others as well. God, may I have the same passion and be on my knees for the people you put in my life. Read more »

That may have been the secret they took to Jacob's grave. If they never told him it must have been awkward for the boys when Jacob and Joseph were together. Will he tell? If my memory serves me correctly when Jacob blesses his sons he doesn't seem to bring up this incident. He does others so if he knew I would think he would definitely think he would have left out some blessings. Read more »

tylerjagen added a text contribution Genesis 45:4-8 It's Not You
How beautiful this man's view on life is. He extols all glory to God. He realized what God was doing in his life and all this time he waited patiently on God and was obedient in Potipher's house and in prison and now as well. You guys sinned, but God turned that sin into deliverance. Definite overtones to Christ. It was not us who sent Jesus to the cross. It was God for our deliverance. Read more »

It's funny how old high school friends want to be your friend on facebook and how instinctual it is to not let the person that I didn't like for one reason or another be my friend. But I've come to realize that some that I've accepted and gotten to know again have really changed. After all these years Joseph realized his brothers have changed. They do not despise Benjamin, even dad still plays favorites. They could not bare the anguish that would cause their dad if Benjam… Read more »

Sometimes it's easy for me to look through the hindsight 20/20 lens and skip over a sentence and miss something meaningful. Joseph was in prison a looooong time. Not only that but I forget that he has NO IDEA how long he's going to be in prison. As far as he knows he will probably rot and die there. So, it's even more amazing how much he trusted God.
