volumewhiz added a text contribution Stop and Smell the Flowers (Bowie)"The heartbeat of Fusion is Acts 2:42." Johnson Bowie, at http://www.fusionatl.org/p/12081/Default.aspx, focuses on the fourth element of this passag, prayer. Many times, people check out when we get to the subject of prayer because we think its boring. When we pray sometimes, its like sending an email into space. So when we don't get answers, its like the server went down. We relate prayer, basically, to our own understanding. We think it is a ritual for monks or snake hand… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Son of Blessing (Bowie)Who is the person of Jesus to us? A guy that always took short cuts across the water? Oft times, we hear the story of Him, but we keep him at a distance, like he is a divine robot. We tend to think of Jesus as 98% God and 2% human. But Jesus was a supernaturally HUMAN BEING. Johnson Bowie at http://www.fusionatl.org/p/12081/Default.aspxdelivers a POWERFUL message about Jesus and His relationship to His Father. I was weeping over this one! He knew He was God, but Hebrews 2:14-18 clearly… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Ending and Beginning (Goodloe)At http://www.mosaic.org/podcast/, Marcus "Goodie" Goodloe opens by talking about how he likes "A Year in Review" reels at the end of each year. Standout events to him were Michael Phelps, Anna Kasorenson (spelling?) retiring from golf, the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, and movies Batman and Wall-E. Those that we lost in 2009 were Paul Newman, Bernie Mack, Tim Russert and Charlton Heston. The Financial Crisis of Wall Street and the changing of the political world by… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution God and the Tsunami (Honey)A site well worth exploring that was recently introduced to me is www.ted.com. Running a search for "God", I found some great 18 minute lectures including this one by Todd Honey of England. A vickery for 20 years in the Church of England, Honey has grappled often with the nature of God. When "God" is mentioned, many people still think of a celestial maker, polliceman or protector. The most frequently used adjective in his church is Almighty. But Honey seems to have a pro… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Stop and Rest (Bowie)Johnson Bowie, at http://www.fusionatl.org/p/12081/Default.aspx, opens his message with a summary about how the end of the year seems to accelerate. Thanksgiving comes, then Christmas, then New Years and bang, you are a year older. But anyway, this time of year can sometimes be a time when we are most disconnected from God. We are so busy or the time reminds of what should be or its a time when we are trying to escape our problems, so ironically, we find ourselves forgetting what this time of… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution The Sex Talk: Homosexuality (Loritts)Opening this controversial subject in John, Crawford Loritts, at http://www.fbconline.org/visitorcenter/, reads verses 2-11. "We have few sexual boundaries in our society today. Even Christians are hesitant to impose their beliefs or speak out about Biblical Truth. Case and point, November 4, Proposition 8 in California raised controversy because critics said, "Who are you to tell me that I am not a minority and to tell me what's right or wrong with marriage?" Karen and C… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Discover (McMcanus)You have to hear the "Don't You Dare" made-up song at the beginning of this message. It is hilarious!! Erin McManus at www.mosaic.org is talking about "How to Live Wide Awake"; how to live a life that seems beyond our reach. Begin to take the time to listen to the inner voice that pulls us out of the mundane. It begins with a dream. Erin was at Starbucks recently and came outside to find a jet black Ferrari beside his Mini Cooper. But inside, he had seen this magaz… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution God's Dream for Your Life (Ingram)Theresa, Chip Ingram's wife, was pregnant at a banquet and her water broke. He and she rushed to the hospital to find there was a problem because the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck. At many contractions, the monitor to the baby's heart kept slowing to dangerous levels. But finally, the baby was born safely after 27 hours. After holding the baby for awhile and after thanking God for the baby, Chip wept on the floor, overwhelmed. His dreams for his child and… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Does Green Have Me Seeing Red? (Noble)There are many differences between men and women. For his five year anniversary with Lucretia, Perry Noble, at www.newspring.cc, and she went to Hawaii. He packed next to nothing, but she nearly needed a forklift to get into the care. "We're not moving to Hawaii, honey." said Perry. "Who do you have in there?" But Lucretia responded, "Perry, a woman needs more options." Men want options too, but with CARS. All of us like options, but the problem with many… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Table for One (Bowie)How many of us are tired of, whenever we see our relatives, family saying, "When are you going to get married?" or "When are you going to have kids?" For those who are single, they say, "God, I've been praying and seeking. Why won't you bring somebody?" Is there a personal thing that we can't see ourselves? Is God punishing us? Nobody wants to be the creepy old cat lady. Right? Or Mike, who grows up to play Dungeons & Dragons all his life.… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Practical Teaching (Stanley)What if we had absolute confidence in God no matter what? What if we no longer feared our circumstances and viewed the world as something that we could trust God with completely? What would our lives be like then? Can you imagine? If we don't have this kind of faith, it can be irritating when we run into someone who does have this faith! We look at those kinds of people and say to ourselves, "I wish I was as ignorant as you, but I am intelligent and I see the problems clearly of t… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Can I enjoy movies and culture and still be a Christian? (Noble)At the local Mall, Perry Noble opens his message talking about how he went to a clothing store and the salesman there was obsessed with showing him items that Perry had no interest at all in purchasing. "That is probably also true about the church." Continuing his "You Asked for It" series at http://www.newspring.cc/series/you-asked-for-it-week-5, Perry addresses the tough issue of being in the world, but not a part of it. We are way too obsessed, as a church, with giving… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Do Not Disturb (Bowie)Johnson begins this continuation of his "God on Mute" when Jesus went to Judea to see the body of Lazarus. When he gets there, he's greeted by the two sisters, Mary and Martha. Martha runs to him saying, "Jesus, why weren't you here? If you had been here, my brother wouldn't have died!!" But then Mary came. This is the woman who would later pour perfume on Jesus' feet. She echos the words of Martha, "Jesus, if only you had been here, my brother… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Re(Act) to Extreme Poverty (Mycoskie)At www.722.org, Jarrett interviews Blake Mycoskie. Blake shares his incredible story. He didn't grow up in a christian home. His mother was a christian, but only by culture and his father was an atheist. It wasn't until Jr. High that Blake finally saw someone who lived out the christian life. It was his tennis coach: a poor, but humble man who worked hard to support his family. Blake asked him about his faith and the rest was history as his coach invited him to church. In high s… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Engaging the Silence (Bowie)We hear about times when God comes through, don't we? But when he doesn't come through sometimes, how do we engage the silence? Johnson Bowie, at http://www.fusionatl.org/p/12081/Default.aspx, continues his "God on Mute" series with some tough questions. When we get the pink slip, the diagnosis or the bad news, we should be the people whose faith doesn't crumble. Let's tackle the question of "Where is God during the hard times?" In Matthew, Jesus says… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution I Ain't Afraid of No Ghosts (Bowie)In order for us to really press forward in our life for God's Purposes, we've got to get free of our fear. Johnson Bowie, at http://www.fusionatl.org/p/12081/Default.aspx, continues his "Know Fear" series by saying that we have to know the stuff that spiritually comes against us. In order for God to set us free, we have to ask God to expose us. Until we know who God is, we will continue to put the approval of man in front of Him. If we know what God says about us (He smil… Read more »

There's so much fear floating around isn't there? Beginning his series, "Know Fear", Johnson Bowie, at http://www.fusionatl.org/p/12081/Default.aspx, addresses our perceptions of fear. If it's not Satan, it's our parents… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution So You're Dead...Now What (Groeschel)After a casket is wheeled onto the stage and several minutes go by, Craig Groeschel of Lifechurch.tv comes on stage saying, "You thought I was going to come out of that casket, didn't you? Well, it's not gonna happen." Talking about death can make people uncomfortable. There's a store in Dallas, TX that says in big flashing lights, "The Casket Store". What would it be like to be a salesman there? "What would it take you to get into this coffin?"… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Joy (Bowie)I've heard this sermon before, but I had to go back to it this morning because I was needing a good dose of Joy. This is probably my all-time favorite message of ANYONE and it is well worth listening to. Johnson Bowie, at www.victoryatl.com, is a guest speaker in the series, "Inside Out". What would it look like if the outside of us truly reflected what was inside of us? Would it be a good thing? If we would just take off our "Love Mask"", we might begin to exp… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Silent But Not Absent (Bowie)Do you ever pray and God is not there? Maybe he is, but he's just not listening? You sense he is there but then he's not. All you hear is the "divine echo". Why do we pray? Is God even listening? It's like He's about to speak, but then He walks away. Silence is always awkward. Does that seem like the God we know? God is always answering prayers and doing amazing things, but He doesn't answer my prayers. What do we do with the silence of our God? &quo… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Is It OK for a Christian to Drink Alcohol? (Noble)Addressing the controversial subject, "Alcohol", Perry Noble continues his series; "You Asked for It". "Alcohol, in the South, is highly controversial." Before he goes there, he wants us each to establish our position on the subject. He gives 3 choices; 1) It's wrong for Christians to drink. 2) It's okay for Christians as long as they don't get drunk. 3) Unsure. Perry also asks the audience to "own our faith". He doesn't want us… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Get Out of the Way - (Jakes)T.D. Jakes opens the first of his series, "Get Out of the Way" at http://www.thepottershouse.org/v2/content/view/196/268/. John the Baptist was preaching that the Kingdom of Heaven was at hand. People followed him, but he was crazy. But nobody follows ordinary. Who rants and raves about ordinary? People follow extraordinary! God will take the ordinary to the extraordinary. John dressed in camel's hair and ate locusts. He was the premier prelate of his day. His ministry… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Mind...Body...Soul (Stevens)Continuing his 7/22 "All of the Above" series, http://www.722.org/, Jarrett Stevens reviews last week. He is covering how we tend to compartmentalized our lives externally, but we also have challenges internally: disparities between who we want to be and who we are. Jarrett wants to be honest and courageous in his life, but he has internal conflicts with this. He was at the airport one time and a friend couldn't pick him up, but sent someone else named Jeff. When Jeff came to… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Beyond Getting Even (Ortberg)Have you ever walked into a room and can't remember why you went into the room? Or have you ever listened to someone talking and then forgot what they just did? When we fall into a routine, the danger is sometimes that our mind dismisses itself. When we say the Lord's Prayer, this sometimes happens. John Ortberg, at http://www.mppcfamily.org/app/w_page.php, stops at "Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors" saying this is tough. Are we willing to delve into this a… Read more »

volumewhiz added a text contribution Live...Work...Play (Stevens)Continuing his "All of the Above" series, Jarrett Stevens, at http://www.722.org/, opens by talking about how we "categorize" and segment our lives. We live very compartmentalized lives. God doesn't desire to see us live our lives this way, so he wants to explore this with us. It occurred to Jarrett how much this happens on a global scale. Jan 1, 2008, Jarrett said he was watching a Christian show with some friends about all the things that happened in 2007. There w… Read more »
