    JW's argue this should be translated as "the Word was a god" since theos is anarthrous. However, they don't follow that rule consistently (even in the same chapter). Plus, that "rule" is not consistent with Greek grammar. Colwell's rule is in play here. That doesn't mean it's definite either though.
