Translation Update: Bible Society of the South Pacific

The Bible Society of the South Pacific and Tonga Missions are working together to complete three Bible translation projects: the Tonga West Revised Version, the Tongan Contemporary Bible, and the Tongan Catholic Bible.

These projects represent years of faithful service by people committed to getting a completed Bible in these languages. The Bibles will mainly serve the people of Tonga—a group of about 170 islands in the southwest Pacific Ocean. Their goal is for every Tongan reader to have access to God’s Word in their language, while maintaining biblical accuracy and theological integrity.

These projects are currently in the proofreading stage! We are so grateful for the translation teams’ commitment to excellence in every stage.

Believers across the world know the power of having Scripture in their language for daily discipleship and growing closer to God. Translation efforts in Tonga will help make that a reality for churches and families in that area, helping them understand the Bible in a language that feels like home.

The Bible Society of the South Pacific and Tonga Missions are involved in other outreach initiatives. Monthly radio programs share encouragement and provide awareness of the Tongan Bible in the Bible App, church engagement programs help support local missions, and high school visits help kids discover God’s Word.
